Social Media Editor - QIPCO British Champions Day

Who we are

Welcome to Ascot where tradition meets innovation and excitement is the heartbeat of our business. We are a destination for over 500,000 guests each year where passion, elegance, and celebration converge and it is our team of behind‑the‑scenes heroes that bring every intricate detail to life. As one of the world’s leading racecourses, Ascot is renowned for its rich heritage spanning over 300 years. But we are not bound by the past; we’re driven by the pursuit of excellence in everything we do.

From hosting our flagship event, Royal Ascot, to pioneering sustainable practices, we are committed to building a global lifestyle brand, wrapped around the world‑class horse racing we run. At Ascot we believe in preserving the beauty of our surroundings and minimising our ecological footprint. From eco‑friendly initiatives to community engagement programmes, we strive to make a positive impact on both the environment and the lives of those around us.

QBCD is the pinnacle of the British Flat Racing season. Staged each year in October at Ascot, it marks the finale of the season by welcoming the year’s top‑performing horses to compete for the UK’s richest prize purse. Throughout the year, key races build the narrative and contribute to the storylines that have made QBCD an ongoing success in British sport. Affiliated with this is Club26 – a membership programme offering young racegoers aged 18‑26 and under the opportunity to experience some of the country’s top race meetings at a discounted rate.

What we are looking for

We’re looking for an experienced, dynamic and creative Social Media Editor, based in our offices at the racecourse in Ascot, Berkshire. This is a full‑time, permanent role.

What you’ll be doing

Based at Ascot Racecourse and working collaboratively with the Senior Project Manager – QBCD and Ascot marketing team, you’ll combine editorial judgment, digital creativity, and production skills to craft and manage engaging content that celebrates the sport’s drama, heritage, and future. You’ll oversee and lead on social strategy, content creation, and community engagement across QBCD channels, while also supporting key moments across the Flat season that are relevant to the event. From short‑form video to live event coverage, your work will drive audience growth, engagement, and excitement in the build‑up to QIPCO British Champions Day and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead the social media content strategy for QIPCO British Champions Day across all channels (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn).
  • Shape an editorial calendar that aligns with key racing moments, QBCD narratives, and campaign objectives – with a strong focus on audience growth and engagement.
  • Ensure all content reflects the distinctive QBCD tone of voice and brand positioning.
Content Creation & Production
  • Plan, capture, and edit video and visual content that brings Flat racing to life – from behind‑the‑scenes stories and jockey profiles to raceday excitement.
  • Write compelling copy for posts, captions, and video scripts that connect with audiences across platforms.
  • Create and edit a variety of content formats (written, video, graphic, image‑led) tailored to each platform’s best practices.
  • Lead and manage content shoots, working closely with videographers, photographers, industry stakeholders and agency partners.
Event Coverage & Activation
  • Deliver on‑ground social coverage at key Flat racing fixtures and media moments throughout the season, particularly QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot.
  • Coordinate real‑time posting, storytelling, and fan engagement to amplify live action and behind‑the‑scenes access.
  • Work collaboratively with the Ascot team to ensure consistent messaging and cross‑promotional opportunities.
Community & Channel Management
  • Manage day‑to‑day posting, scheduling, and community engagement, fostering a strong and positive connection with followers.
  • Identify and engage with key voices, influencers, and stakeholders across the racing and lifestyle spaces.
  • Track audience sentiment and performance metrics to continually optimise engagement and reach.
  • Act as the primary contact for external digital or creative agencies, ensuring delivery of high‑quality content in line with KPIs.
  • Liaise with racing partners, teams, and rights holders to coordinate storytelling and content access.
Analysis & Reporting
  • Monitor and analyse social media performance across all platforms, providing regular reporting and insights.
  • Use analytics to inform future creative and strategic decisions.
  • Manage allocated budgets efficiently to deliver maximum impact.
Key Skills
  • Proven experience in leading channel management and content creation within the racing industry.
  • Strong video production and editing skills, with proficiency in mobile‑first editing tools (e.g. CapCut, Adobe Premiere, TikTok editing suite).
  • A genuine interest in horse racing, sport, and cultural storytelling – and a curiosity to explore its modern audience appeal.
  • Excellent copywriting and editorial skills – able to craft engaging, on‑brand narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Confident creating platform‑specific content across all social channels.
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, formats, and algorithms.
  • Experience with scheduling and analytics tools (e.g. Sprout Social, Later, Monday.com).
  • Collaborative and adaptable – comfortable working across multiple teams and fast‑paced live environments.
  • Willingness to travel for race meetings and content opportunities (including occasional weekend work, with time off in lieu).
