Job description

We are looking for an Engineer to join our Site Team, supporting projects installed on trains across the UK and at our Derby production facility.

This is a hands-on role involving installation, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced technologies such as machine-vision cameras, laser measurement systems, thermal sensors, embedded Linux, IP networking, and GPS/4G/5G.

You’ll split your time between site visits nationwide and our Derby office, ensuring systems are kept running safely and efficiently. Experience with field-based technology such as CCTV, monitoring, or measurement equipment is preferred, while confidence working in secure or restricted environments is essential. Prior rail industry experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities
  • Liaise with clients to understand and help plan timings for site-based activities.
  • Plan work, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Contribute to design, building, configuring, and testing systems.
  • Install and commission systems that have been tested in our production facilities.
  • Independently carry out work on-site in a safety-conscious and professional manner.
  • Build relationships with key on-site personnel.
  • Communicate proactively with other team members to troubleshoot problems and create solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical and test documentation.
  • Work with our Business Development team to carry out unit/location surveys for potential new projects and installs.
  • Ensure tools, materials, and work areas are kept organised and safe.
  • Follow health & safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Report faults, hazards, and incidents to the supervisor/manager.
  • Support other site operations as required.
Personal Qualities and Experience
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and hands-on with a positive, proactive approach.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective under pressure with the ability to multitask and prioritise work.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with meticulous attention to detail when required.
  • Team player with strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation/specification writing.
  • Safety-conscious, responsible, and punctual.
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks.
  • Experience delivering projects in an industrial environment; rail industry experience and certification desirable.
  • A UK driving licence, along with flexibility to travel to sites across the UK, is essential for this role.

Successful candidates will need to pass a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check as part of the onboarding process.

You would be a valued part of a small but growing team where your ideas and opinions are valued as we continue the exciting journey of One Big Circle.
