A leading construction company in the UK is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to manage safety on NAVFAC projects. You will ensure compliance with safety policies, conduct inspections, and address potential hazards. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in construction safety, holds relevant certifications, and possesses strong organizational skills. A commitment to safety and health standards is essential, and you will work closely with project teams to ensure a safe working environment.
Our team is looking for an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to manage assigned projects, overseeing all aspects of safety, health, and environmental management onsite. You will ensure adherence to MEB’s safety policies, government contract requirements, and applicable regulations, while communicating safety issues to the Regional Safety and Health Manager, Corporate Safety and Health Manager, and Corporate Safety Director.
This position will support a NAVFAC project and requires the ability to obtain and maintain access credentials to work on military installations.

Identify, document, and recommend the resolution of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections are made.
Participate in the planning and preparation of the project safety program.
Administer site craft safety incentives and disciplinary programs.
Support management in responding to employee work-related injuries, illnesses, or fit-for-duty evaluations.
Support management in the repair or mitigation of company, public, or private property damage arising from incidents.
Perform incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking in compliance with USACE EM 385-1-1 and NAVFAC requirements.
Assess site-specific safety training needs and conduct safety training for all personnel, including subcontractors.
Conduct and document site safety orientations and daily activity hazard analyses (AHAs).
Maintain and update project safety documentation in compliance with the Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), and EM 385-1-1 requirements.
Maintain accurate and accessible OSHA and EM 385-1-1 safety records, including injury and illness logs.
Ensure proper posting of the OSHA Form 300A from February 1st to April 30th in a location accessible to all workers.
Assist in maintaining all safety systems and equipment, including fire protection, fall protection, gas detectors, lockout/tagout systems, and PPE inventory.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits using prescribed predictive analytics and electronic data collection tools.
Serve as the onsite point of contact for safety inspections and compliance audits conducted by NAVFAC, USACE, or other government agencies.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety on NAVFAC or USACE projects.
Must be familiar with EM 385-1-1, OSHA 29 CFR 1926, and applicable DoD and federal safety regulations.
Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials (DBIDS or RAPIDGate).
As a minimum, must have completed the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety course or equivalent.
Must have completed the USACE EM 385-1-1, 40-hour Construction Safety Course.
Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
Strong knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in environmental, health, and safety compliance.
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and safety management software.
Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and communication skills.
Must be able to achieve Safety Trained Supervisor – Construction (STS-C) certification within 90 days of employment.
