MoneyGram Haas F1 Team celebrates its tenth season in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. We don’t follow the status quo—we’re here to challenge the competition, and we want you to join us. General Summary
This position reports to the Head of Controls and Systems or their designee and is in Banbury, UK. The role involves the development of electronics and control systems for the integration of Motion Applied’s TAG320 and TAG700 systems within the dSPACE module in the driver-in-the-loop simulator environment. Develop new processes/tools or integrate/adapt existing ones to allow other groups within the company to fully exploit the simulator functionality.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Simulator Group within Performance Systems with the integration of systems such as the Formula 1® single ECU and peripheral units within the dSPACE module, as required.
- Support the Controls and Systems Group and other departments with the development of embedded systems and their integration with the racing cars or other environments.
- Lead the successful delivery of the new simulator project, ensuring timely and effective implementation.
- Ensure continuous alignment between the simulator and the race car to maintain accuracy and performance.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to models, software, and communication systems using hands-on fault-finding expertise.
- Collaborate with embedded code developers, electronics engineers, and software teams to support and maintain both on-car and off-car systems, including SECU embedded code, VTAG applications, and associated configuration and programming tools.
- Work closely with the Vehicle Science Group to enhance and sustain real-time vehicle models within the dSpace simulation environment.
Education and Work Experience
- Minimum BSc in a STEM subject, preferably with a specialization in Electronics or Control Systems. A Master’s degree or PhD is an advantage.
- At least three years’ experience in an electronics/controls/systems development role in Formula One or other high-end motorsport, or a relevant industry.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
- Strong foundational knowledge of electronics and their application in motorsport environments.
- Solid understanding of high-end motorsport sensor technologies and their integration.
- Proficient in communication protocols such as CAN Bus and Ethernet.
- Sound grasp of control theory and advanced motorsport control systems.
- Experience in maintaining and developing real-time control software using MATLAB and Simulink is highly desirable.
- Skilled in scripting and tool development to automate workflows, using languages such as MATLAB or Python.
- Robust technical expertise in racing car systems and performance engineering.
- Consistently delivers high-quality work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
- Demonstrates clear, analytical decision-making when solving complex problems.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.

Equipment and Applications
- Proven experience with MA TAG ECU systems and associated peripheral components.
- Hands-on expertise with hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) systems and control prototyping platforms, ideally dSPACE Scalexio.
- Strong understanding of MA tools and products, including System Monitor and GDE libraries, for effective application management within the vTAG environment.
- Familiarity with CAN communication tools such as Peak CAN or equivalent systems.
- Solid IT proficiency, including advanced use of Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
An ability to work and prioritize within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours, including weekends. This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced environment with machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
