Working Hours: 4 on 4 off: 6am -6pm

Salary: £46,250 per annum

Job Purpose

The Shift Manager will lead their department to ensure the consistent achievement of SQDCP measures: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People. This role involves overseeing daily operations, managing the team, and driving continuous improvement to meet performance targets.

Key Duties, Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Overall accountability for SHE in department including: PPE, accident investigations, first aider cover, plant and equipment safe to use, teams familiar with evacuation procedures, maintaining CAYG. Ensures group leaders maintain SHE standards required
  • Completes allrequiredSHE audits in own area
  • Audits pre start to checks to ensure that they are being completed and actions followed up
  • Ensures all Health & Safety outstanding actions have been centrally logged and cleared within a reasonable timeframe
  • Demonstrate actions taken or in progress to proactively reduce accident and near misses in team
Food Safety & Quality
  • Overall accountability for food safety & quality in department including: dress code, good manufacturing practice, products produced to SOP, closing out non conformances, improving quality, CAYG, HACCP, paperwork accuracy, allergen and speciation control
  • Ensures random locker searchers are completed
  • Ensures all equipment is calibrated and paperworkmaintained
  • Demonstrate actions taken to proactively reduce complaints
  • Works in partnership with QA to investigate root cause of concessions/non conformance and minimise / remove. Looks beyond "lack of resource"
Leading People
  • Knows the process to follow to recruit new people into the team. Uses the agreed interview templates and makes fair selection decisions. Allocated candidates to the right department based on skills andstrengths.
  • All group leaders within team have a development plan and action plan updated within the last 6 months. Evidence of validation & progress can beseen.
  • Knows how to effectively resource the team taking into consideration absence, holiday, training, succession and leavers.
  • Drives completion of skill matrix to ensure skills aremaintainedin department
  • Able to investigate and chair complex/sensitive disciplinary and grievance cases. Effectively handles dismissals and appeals.
  • Ensures department are regularly kept up to date on business updates, department priorities and snapshot content (E.g. huddles). Seeks feedback of what's not working and takes action
  • Ensures group leaders can effectively manage time off requests, carry out investigations, conduct low level hearings, manage absence
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively reward and recognisestrong performance. Effectively makes use of Hero Awards scheme. Can also implement performance improvement plans with teammembers.
Driving High Performance
  • Effectively manages change and communication across department.E.g.Implementation of new ways of working and machines and effective cascade ofSQDCP.
  • Drives SQDCP performance across own department and with group leaders
  • Ensures daily rituals are in place to ensure effective materials management and labour utilisation. (e.g SICs) Investigates under performance and owns continuous improvement. When faced with production challenges knows how to effectively rebalance the plan to deliver a profitable shift. Provides factory managers with solutions and ideas
  • Able to apply practicalproblem solvingtechniques (5 Why) to operational problems,identifiesroot cause and implementsaction.
  • Ensures SOPs/SSOW are up to date for own department
  • Where problems arise brings together theappropriate crossfunctional team. Empowers team to generate the solution, only escalates issues as per escalationprocess.
