Location: Nasmyth Ferndown, 78-82 Cobham Road, Ferndown Industrial Estate, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 7RW

Job type: Full Time / Permanent

Salary: £20.93 per hour

Hours per week: 39 hours

Start & finish times: Mon – Thu: 07:15 – 16:15; Fri: 07:15 – 12:15

Summary of role

We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Fabricator with strong experience in refined sheet metal work to produce high-quality components in line with customer specifications. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented and proficient in industry-standard sheet metal fabrication techniques. Welding experience is not required for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read drawings and specifications.
  • Work to customer specifications.
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff or smooth surfaces, seams or joints of assembled parts using hand tools or portable power tools.
  • Shape metal material over blocks or other forms using hand tools.
  • Lay out, measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on material in accordance with the drawing or template, using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares and rulers.
  • Fabricate or alter parts using shears, hammers, punches or drills.
  • Use hand tools safely.
  • Use guillotine, band saw and pedestal drills safely.
  • Cut materials to size.
  • Complete job cards.
  • Use general measuring equipment.
  • Handle materials safely (manual handling and moving).
  • Handle components, jigs and fixtures safely.
  • Maintain equipment, making repairs or modifications when necessary.
  • Work on own initiative.
  • Assemble larger structures or machines by joining smaller components, ensuring precise alignment.
  • Work with a range of thin gauge materials, including steel, aluminium, stainless steel and other metals.
Health & Safety
  • Take responsibility for own and staff safety, ensuring safe and hazard-free workspace.
  • Complete accident and near‑miss forms within 24 hours and investigate lost‑time incidents.
  • Complete risk assessments and implement control measures.
  • Apply and enforce Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental regulations and processes.
  • Maintain a positive health and safety attitude.
  • Work with management to identify hazards and reduce risk.

  • Independence and good communication skills.
  • Desirable Skills
    • Spot welding, seam welding and rivet assembly (preferred).
