What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Balfour Beatty Ecology Technical Specialist and Project Leads, the Senior Site Ecologist will perform the following key activities:

  • Work closely with the project Environmental Manager
  • Lead on delivery of project ecological requirements
  • Develop and implement ecological management plans
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, clients and design teams, and internal teams
  • Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation and coach construction teams in applying controls and mitigations in pragmatic, cost‑effective ways
  • Ensure the company environmental management system is maintained in line with changing standards and legislation and liaise with senior team lead on changes required
  • Lead investigations and report on ecological incidents
  • Provide pragmatic advice and site support to operational teams on ecological requirements
Who We're Looking For
Essential Qualities / Experience
  • Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
  • Excellent understanding of ecological legislation for development
  • Good level of commercial awareness
  • Full driver’s licence and flexibility to travel
  • Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
  • Good understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment
  • Literate in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills
Desirable Qualities / Experience
  • Experience of working on large scale infrastructure construction projects
  • Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject
  • At least one protected species survey licence, preferably hazel dormouse or bat level 1 or 2
  • Full CIEEM Membership
