Job description

Are you ready to make a real impact in the world of social housing? We’re looking for a Senior Service Improvement Officer (Assets) to join our team.

About Us

At the heart of our service is a commitment to providing quality, affordable, and sustainable homes that meet the evolving needs of our tenants. We believe in creating homes and spaces where people thrive, and we’re looking for a passionate individual to join our Service Improvement Team, focussing on our Asset Management activity.

Your Role

North Yorkshire Council is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking asset improvement lead to join our Service Improvement team. This role offers the chance to lead transformational change, improve lives, and help shape the future of asset management.

As our asset improvement lead, you’ll be at the heart of service improvement projects that drive customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. You’ll work closely with the Service Improvement Manager and Housing Standards Managers to identify opportunities for change, design innovative solutions, and deliver measurable improvements across our landlord services. From developing our Asset Management Strategy to maintaining our asset database your work will directly influence how we manage and maintain our homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading on change: enhancing the management of our housing assets, including delivering our Asset Management Strategy, Asset Investment Plan, capital work programmes, and our response to regulatory change
  • Drive Improvements: supporting the implementation of innovative practices to achieve our ambitious housing strategy goals around housing delivery, energy efficiency and quality.
  • Compliance and Safety: leading on asset compliance data and reporting and risk profiling. Ensuring robust working practices are in place and adhered to for the accurate recording and reporting of data to evidence compliance with Decent Homes Standard and Tenant Satisfaction Measures.
  • Engage with Tenants: Lead by example in engaging with tenants and leaseholders, ensuring their needs are met and communication is timely and clear.
Skills & Experience
  • An understanding of social housing best practices, particularly tenant safety and compliance.
  • Proven project management experience, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving change and managing workloads effectively.

We are dedicated to investing in the professional growth of our team. While knowledge of housing compliance regimes, SQL, GIS, and qualifications such as Chartered Institute of Housing Level 4 are desirable, they are not essential. If you don’t yet have these skills or certifications, we will support you in developing them as part of your career journey with us.
