Job description
Senior Phlebotomist (UHL) – Band 3

Closing date: 27 December 2025

Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum (pro‑rata)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible Senior Phlebotomist to work 12.00 h Saturdays and Sundays (6 am–12 pm). The role involves managing staff when required, acting as the first point of call for patients and staff, and handling clinic and administrative duties across all three UHL site locations, including the East Midlands Planned Care Centre at Leicester General Hospital.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the phlebotomy team as assigned.
  • Supervise and induct new phlebotomy staff and mentor across sites.
  • Support other teams and senior phlebotomists when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, confidentiality and correct record‑keeping.
  • Collect and record statistical information as required by the Phlebotomy Service Manager.
  • Resolve staff performance issues and handle first‑line escalation for non‑standard queries and complaints.
  • Prioritise and allocate workload, autonomously problem‑solve day‑to‑day issues and collaborate with senior phlebotomists, Deputy Phlebotomy Manager and Service Manager.
  • Ensure the team works collaboratively and resolves conflicts timely and professionally.

Training & Qualifications
  • Satisfactory level of general education; GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3.

Experience
  • Previous work within a healthcare setting.
  • Prior phlebotomy experience (minimum 2 years).
  • Demonstrated leadership, organisation and supervisory skills.
  • Experience dealing with complaints and conflict management.
