Position Summary

As part of the IS Communications Systems group, the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the Firm’s WLAN, LAN and WAN environments. The role is a technical expert who executes network infrastructure projects, works closely with the Architecture and Engineering group and the Network Operations group, mentors junior engineers, and provides third‑level support for complex issues.
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Engineer, configure and support the Firm’s LAN, WAN and SD‑WAN environments with a focus on enterprise wireless infrastructure.
- Analyse wireless survey data for new implementations and improve existing ones.
- Coordinate installation and upgrades of Aruba wireless infrastructure firm‑wide.
- Monitor wireless infrastructure health and statistics using Aruba Airwave and other tools.
- Research emerging network technologies and recommend them based on future business needs.
- Monitor network performance and integrity.
- Troubleshoot and manage issues of Firm network infrastructure.
- Perform network maintenance, upgrades and refreshes.
- Assist with regional office build‑outs and upgrades.
- Assist with network access controls in alignment with the Security team.
- Help the Network Operations team implement required hardware in data centers and office locations.
- Identify problem areas and proactively develop solutions to meet network infrastructure challenges.
- Monitor, measure and analyse data and trends against performance and security SLAs.
- Coordinate with and participate in activities with vendors as required.
- Participate in planning, testing and execution of DR/BC procedures, including fail‑over and fail‑back between data centers and across the Firm’s network.
- Mentor junior engineers and develop “how‑to” guides under the direction of the manager or consultant.
- Provide day‑to‑day technical support of the network at the Firm’s data centers and office premises, ensuring high efficiency in problem resolution and uptime.
- Provide on‑call support to remedy equipment failures by working with NetOps, Facilities and service providers at Firm office locations and data centers.
- Produce clear, grammatically correct documentation, emails, procedures and status reports.
- Comply with all department policies, standards and procedures.
Additional Position Responsibilities
- Assist with the deployment and support of systems infrastructure.
- Participate in Change Control and Change Management.
- Respond to administrative requests and responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Assist Management with administrative tasks and vendor management.
- Exercise care to prevent injuries to oneself and co‑workers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or required.
Skills & Experience
Required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and implementing high‑density enterprise wireless networks.
- Expertise with Aruba wireless technologies, including virtual and physical WLAN controllers, Mobility Master and Airwave.
- Hands‑on experience with Cisco switching, routing and SD‑WAN platforms.
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP and OSPF.
- Strong knowledge of firewall concepts.
- Ability to travel to other offices as needed.
- Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required.
- Proficiency in the Firm’s mainstream business applications following new‑hire orientation.
Preferred
- Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
- Educated to degree level, preferably in engineering or computer science.
- Aruba and/or Cisco certification.
- Prior law firm experience.
