Job summary

A local library service in Cowbridge seeks an experienced manager to oversee the Library Service and Council Contact Point. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years' experience as a librarian, strong leadership and decision-making skills, as well as sound knowledge of library systems. This role involves managing staff, promoting services, and developing the library service across locations. A proactive approach and an enthusiasm for libraries are essential. About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 9 SPC 31 - 35 £41,771 - £46,142 Pro Rata £21.65 - £32.92 Per Hour

To manage the Library Service and Council Contact Point at Barry, Penarth or Cowbridge as directed, and assist in the development of the service as a whole.

About You
  • At least 3 years working as a qualified librarian
  • Experience of managing and supporting staff
  • Experience of managing environments under economic uncertainty and change.
  • Sound knowledge of library systems and processes
  • Active interest in current professional issues
  • A confident leader, able to lead and motivate staff
  • Excellent decision making skills based on sound judgement
  • Good problem solving and negotiating skills
  • Able to diffuse and manage difficult situations
  • Enthusiasm for working with others and promoting services
  • Excellent presentation and training skills
  • Digitally confident in all areas of Microsoft 365 and general applications, software and tools.
  • Chartered Librarian or a degree level qualification in Library & Information Management
  • An enthusiastic advocate for libraries
  • Proactive approach to developing and promoting services
  • Confident and resourceful

  • Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate
  • Willingness to be based at any library and to change locations in agreement with Libraries and Cultural Services Manager
