This position is ideal for someone looking to further their development within the laboratory, take on additional responsibility, and contribute to the continued delivery of high-quality analytical work. Reporting to the Team Leaders and Section Heads, you will work closely with Laboratory Technicians, Senior Technicians, Analysts and Microbiologists, supporting both day-to-day operations and the wider safety and quality culture within the team.**Role Hours Per Week:** 40 **Days Per Week:** Monday to Friday (11:00 - 19:30) **Contract:** Full Time and Permanent **Salary:** £26,950 per annum **Hiring Manager:** Ranjit Palahe and Anna Momot **Closing Date:** Monday 19th January 2026**The Day to Day*** Carry out general laboratory and pathology tasks in full accordance with documented methodologies and procedures.* Perform microbiology analyses within required timescales to meet method and customer expectations.* Provide training, guidance and supervision in microbiology methods and procedures.* Enter results accurately and on time in line with method and customer deadlines.* Notify the shift supervisor promptly of any issues, uncertainties, or potential delays affecting test performance or turnaround times.* Monitor stock levels and inform the shift supervisor when replenishment is required.* Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-organised laboratory environment, ensuring waste is disposed of correctly.* Complete all paperwork concisely, accurately and legibly.* Work in accordance with all quality, health and safety procedures, including correct PPE use.* Identify and report unsafe practices immediately and support the Laboratory Manager in resolving them.* Promote and contribute to the continuous improvement of the safety culture within the business unit.* Ensure all analytical data meets ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards.* Report incidents or near misses to a senior member of the team.**The Essentials*** 5 GCSEs (grades A\* - C or 9 - 4), or equivalent, including Science, English and Mathematics.* Strong proficiency in microbiology analysis across a range of methods and procedures.* Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and senior staff.* Strong organisational skills with the ability to use initiative, work independently and prioritise tasks.* High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.* Effective team working skills.* Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.* Sound understanding of laboratory safety requirements and a commitment to promoting safe working practices.**Our benefits include*** Annual Leave commencing at 25 days (rising to 30) plus 8 public holidays (pro rata for part time)* Ability to Buy annual leave.* Enhanced Company Sick Pay Scheme* Salary Progression Scheme based on technical and behavioural competencies.* ‘Celebrating Success’ Recognition Awards* Perkbox membership providing access to discount vouchers and wellness hub.* Learning/study support* Group Personal Pension Plan* Car Parking on-site**Working at ALS**The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.Our values are important to us, and shape how we work, how we treat each other and how we recognise excellence.At ALS, you’ll be supported to develop new skills and reach your full potential.
