Job description

Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Estimator to join the Ground Engineering team based out of Ollerton or Hemel Hempstead.

We have a proven track record of successfully delivering both minor and major works across a range of sectors. We also offer leading Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities, investing in digital solutions for new rigs, remote diagnostics and computer monitoring systems of rotary pile construction.

By engaging with our customers at the earliest stages of each project, we build close working relationships to develop efficient and effective solutions to complex geotechnical needs.

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Estimator
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for piling and ground engineering projects.
  • Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to assess project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to evaluate ground conditions and project feasibility.
  • Perform cost analysis, risk assessment, and value engineering to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Obtain and analyse quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive tender documentation within deadlines.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, project managers to ensure estimates align with technical and contractual requirements.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Keep up to date with market rates, piling techniques and industry regulations.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose alternative methods where appropriate.
  • Assist in budgeting for upcoming projects.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and site investigations.
  • Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
