About this career opportunity

The position is for a Senior Environmental Consultant to work within the Assessments team in our Climate Change and Sustainability Services business in London. You will deliver impact assessments for projects at all levels, including major national infrastructure (transport, water and energy sectors) and urban development projects. Clients will include private developers, public sector authorities and other organisations. You will be working in a multi‑disciplinary environment alongside other environmental, planning, engineering and urban design specialists, and will work closely with technical disciplines (both internal and external to Arup) to deliver high quality environmental consultancy services.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver environmental impact assessment projects, managing the assessment process and technical teams and reviewing all technical inputs.
  • Write environmental reports including EIA screening letters, EIA scoping reports, Environmental Statements and other environmental reports.
  • Review topic reports/inputs for compliance with EIA Regulations and project details.
  • Manage project activities including programming and budget control.
  • Convey and liaise with clients.
  • Assist with impact assessment team business development and marketing, including preparing bids and presentations.
Qualifications
  • Good knowledge of environmental legislation, and application of relevant legislation, policy and guidance in respect to impact assessment for a range of project types.
  • Proven ability to project manage environmental projects, successfully managing teams of technical specialists and multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Experience working within a commercial environment, including client liaison, programme and time management, quality assurance and financial/budget control.
  • Ability to manage and direct more junior staff, including line management duties where appropriate.
  • Providing advice on environmental mitigation and enhancement measures.
Is this role right for you?
  • Education to degree level, preferably a master's degree.
  • Full membership of an appropriate institute (e.g. Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or equivalent).
  • Chartered Environmentalist status but not mandatory.
  • Project experience in Energy and/or Water sectors desirable.
  • Experience of the Planning Act 2008 Development Consent Order (DCO) process (desirable).
