Senior Engineering Manager – HVAC

Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick (BBK) is a market‑leading mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and mechanical, electrical and instrumentation (ME&I) solutions provider with over 100 years of engineering expertise. This role will be based on the Sizewell C Project, a 3.2‑gigawatt low‑carbon power station built next to Sizewell B.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Execution Designers to support development of their respective Design Management Plan and acceptance of the plan prior to commencing Execution Design.
  • Ensure information issued to suppliers, manufacturers and installers (i.e. the execution designs) is consistent with the design information.
  • Work with and create a positive and proactive relationship with respective CEL & corresponding Area Manager/PM.
  • Support resolution of manufacturing TQs and NCRs.
  • Establish and chair regular Technical Progress Review sessions to optimise resolution of technical queries and issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on Execution Design to Programme.
  • Lead the assessment of the impact of design changes and the optimal means of implementing design changes into the MEHA's scope.
  • Support the development of the business case needed to justify changes to the design through the SZC change process.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on Engineering to Programme manager.
  • Lead MEHA inputs into the Collaboration Phase (Building on LFE from HPC and other similar projects).
  • Review and technically accept the SZC Baseline design and associated design.
  • Provide constructability inputs to design studies and activities.
  • Optimise, simplify and standardise the implementation of the detailed design definitions (e.g. standardising the manufacturing configurations).
  • Produce/oversee the production of technical procurement specifications for bulk MEH items & materials (extracting the applicable information from the corresponding specifications and design inputs).
  • Responsible for reviewing and accepting the As‑Defined configuration.
  • Validate (for use within the MEHA's digital tools) As‑Defined configuration identities and PCI relating to As‑Defined items.
  • Review Execution Design & associated design documentation to assure manufacturability & constructability & provide technical recommendation for receipt acceptance to programme manager.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience of leading multi‑disciplinary teams on Mechanical, Electrical or Ventilation projects in a highly regulated sector, preferably in.
  • Engineering Management experience on similar, large‑scale Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects from concept design to commissioning.
  • Awareness of HVAC design, manufacture and installation processes and the requirements to enable successful delivery.
  • Experience from work on HPC would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Degree qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Member of relevant institute or significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant design discipline drawings with the ability to identify errors and non‑conformance.
  • Working knowledge of Navisworks (or similar), Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of ISO9001:2015 and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Working knowledge of Configuration Management and Change Management processes.
  • Provide and demonstrate a positive HSE attitude and a strong Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Strong leader with collaborative nature and ability to reach sensible compromise positions.
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to interface with other disciplines and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a high standard approach to quality with a “Right first time” goal.
  • A positive ‘can do’ mentality, self‑motivated, setting the right behaviours and leading by example.
  • Ability to identify blockers and deliver solutions in compliance with specifications and procedures.
  • Able to gain security clearance.
