Roles: Senior Engineer for Reactor Sampling and Monitoring SystemsLocations: Manchester, Warrington or Derby, UK based hybridPay: £48,000-£62,500**Role Overview**As a Senior Engineer for Reactor Sampling and Monitoring Systems, you will lead the design development of reactor sampling systems and laboratory scope within a highly regulated environment. This role involves:* Developing system design concepts through gated design reviews.* Providing technical guidance and supervision to a small team of engineers.* Ensuring technical solutions are robust, safe, and compliant with Environment, Safety, Security, and Safeguards (E3S) objectives.* Delivering substantiated design outputs supported by detailed performance assessments.* Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to progress scope in line with all applicable requirements.You will use your expertise to coach team members, influence colleagues across the broader reactor design team, and resolve emergent technical issues. **Success Criteria**To succeed in this role, you will:* Deliver high-quality, substantiated designs for sampling and monitoring systems that meet safety and regulatory requirements.* Achieve programme milestones on time and within budget.* Provide effective technical leadership and mentorship to your team.* Ensure compliance with E3S principles, including ALARP and BAT.* Build strong relationships with stakeholders and maintain credibility through clear communication and technical excellence. **Key Selection Criteria**Essential:* Degree-level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.* Proven experience in delivering complex fluid/mechanical systems design within a highly regulated environment.* Strong technical leadership skills, including supervision, technical checking, and approval of outputs.* Ability to apply systems engineering principles, including requirements development and management.* Excellent communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.Desirable:* Previous experience in sampling and monitoring systems design and/or laboratory operations, ideally within the nuclear industry.* Awareness of: + E3S principles (ALARP, BAT). + Nuclear plant operations and procedures. + Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) design and behaviour.* Knowledge of: + Sampling and monitoring methods in nuclear or high-hazard industries. + Component specification for sampling systems (e.g., gloveboxes, sample conditioning). + Radiation monitoring equipment and plant chemistry control programmes. + Hot laboratory operations and environmental discharge monitoring.* Experience in fluid systems design fundamentals, including P&IDs, design documentation, and operating principles.**Pay and Benefits**We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000 - £62,500 DOE plus:-* Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%* Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package* Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.* Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.* Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care* Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay* £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchasesYou’ll be joining a forward-thinking organisation that values transparency, fairness, and innovation.
