Job description
Overview

We are a leading manufacturer of high-quality hi-fi components, seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer to join our UK-based Research and Development (R&D) team in Cambridgeshire.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in designing new Hi-Fi electronics products and improving existing electronic designs to ensure the highest quality standards. Furthermore, a candidate that can bring innovation and lead with best practices will be favourable.

This is a hybrid position, requiring at least two days per week onsite in Cambridgeshire.

Key Responsibilities
Electronic Design
  • Design analogue and digital audio circuits and power supplies for high fidelity audio products.
  • Analyse and critique circuit schematics and PCB layouts for functionality, compliance, and adherence to best practices. Provide detailed feedback to the R&D team to drive design improvements.
  • Take ownership of electronics design quality for multiple products, monitoring progress from inception through to production.
  • Assess physical samples of electronic components for quality through measurement, testing and subjective evaluations.
  • Use awareness of relevant innovations, certifications and industry standards to inform design choices. Lead the R&D team in sourcing and developing novel, cutting edge technologies and solutions.
Collaboration
  • Work closely with the internal technical team consisting of electronics engineers, software engineers, industrial design and mechanical engineers in the UK and China to align on design goals and project timelines.
  • Communicate findings effectively across teams to facilitate improvements.
Travel
  • Travel to the facilities in China as needed to collaborate on projects and oversee quality control processes.
Requirements
Education
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the audio or electronics industry, preferably within the R&D department of a consumer hi-fi or professional audio manufacturer.
  • Strong understanding of circuit schematics, PCB layouts, certification processes, and best practices in electronics design.
  • Lead design engineer on audio electronics product development for hardware manufacturer.
  • Taking product requirements and breaking them down into hardware-level requirements as part of concept development.
Optional
  • The right candidate may also have experience in design and innovation in audio electronics, contributing or leading electronics development.
  • Knowledge of digital audio formats, DSP and firmware integration.
Skills
  • Proficiency in analysing electronic schematics.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Analogue and Digital circuit design relevant to Audio, power supply design and high-speed circuit design.
  • Familiarity with a variety of hardware interface communication protocols. (Experience with networked audio standards preferred)
  • Extensive understanding of PCB design. (Experience with PADS PCB design software is preferred)
  • Familiarity with measurement tools and methodologies for assessing electronic components. (Experience with Audio Precision)
  • Experience with simulation tools and methodologies for designing electronic circuits (e.g. Spice)
  • Excellent communication skills for technical discussions across multicultural teams.
  • Personal interest in music or audio reproduction.
