Position Summary

The Senior Director of Performance Excellence will help lead the Performance Excellence team – driving continuous process improvement and building a culture of innovation and performance excellence throughout the enterprise. This position will champion lean methodologies, Six Sigma, project management, agile thinking, human-centered design, and other performance excellence techniques, as applicable.

This role will directly supervise performance excellence directors, human factors engineers, and project managers focused on process excellence and innovation. The role will also support and have oversight of data analysis functions, business analysis functions, development of solutions/process changes, and key initiatives with strategic partners that are focused on supporting performance excellence and innovation initiatives for the health system.

The Senior Director of Performance Excellence will ensure the team produces tangible operational results. The position will support senior management, operational owners, and the process excellence team with identifying, scoping, and leading projects that align with business strategy and assist project sponsors with initiatives focused on operational excellence. This individual will ensure the team has an innovation-forward, data-driven, and results-focused mindset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of change agents to instill Lean Six Sigma culture throughout the organization via specific projects and drive measurable business process improvement.
  • Develop and share new tools/techniques to further the advancement of the Lean Six Sigma program.
  • Support the collection and analysis of data for determining an improvement strategy.
  • Oversee processes for the performance excellence team to ensure standardized processes exist to manage project plans.
  • Facilitate and teach Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques.
  • Lead a team of coaches that support existing and new teams with Lean Sigma projects and application of Lean Thinking techniques to clinical processes.
  • Expand the application of Lean Thinking techniques to clinical processes.
  • Facilitate the application of standardized work practices to both administrative and clinical processes.
  • Leads project teams, oversees the work of other project staff, and contributes to performance evaluations.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of multiple departments to positively communicate and work with professionals at all levels of the organization.
  • Develop credibility with staff at all levels of the organization and understand the needs of a variety of audience members and tailor a message accordingly.
  • Support Senior Management and Process Owners with identifying, scoping, and financially justifying projects that align with business strategy and assist project sponsors with the development of project charters.
Desired Attributes
  • 5+ years of direct management experience within a performance excellence function.
  • Healthcare experience implementing a Lean Six Sigma performance excellence program.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, statistical data analysis software, and other desktop applications.
  • Experience producing tangible operational and financial results in a healthcare setting.
  • Technical knowledge of data collection and analysis.
  • Analytical ability to develop and interpret application of data.
  • High level of organizational skills to manage projects, timetables, and implementations.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying Lean Six Sigma and previous experience training staff.
  • Ability to effectively manage through influence, navigate sensitive change management initiatives, and build a team culture founded on accountability and trust.
  • 5-7 years of experience with Lean or Six Sigma or equivalent through the leadership of several successful Lean or Six Sigma projects with demonstrated results.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business administration, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience with Lean or Six Sigma or equivalent.
  • At least 3-5 years of management experience.
Required Licensure/Certification
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent certification required.
Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Pay Range

$130,000.00 - $170,000.00
