Job Description

As Design Lead, Brand Licensing, you will play a crucial role in shaping and safeguarding our brand identity across a global network of license partners. By training, guiding, and supporting external partners, you ensure that our design standards are consistently understood and upheld. Acting as a steward for the brand, you will empower partners to deliver high-quality, on‑brand experiences that reflect our values and design vision worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Governance & Partner Support

  • Ensure strong implementation of the Design Language System (DLS) with tailored guidance for each partner.

  • Maintain and elevate brand quality through proactive engagement and timely feedback.

  • Provide partners with the right tools and capabilities to meet Philips brand standards.

  • Review and approve brand expressions across all design touchpoints.

  • Review, validate, and sign off Design Identity Documentation.

  • Address brand‑quality issues and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with license partners and internal business teams.

  • Align with other Business Line (BL) teams to ensure consistency across portfolios.

  • Drive Philips’ design language across materials, finishes, products, and user interface design.

Design Leadership
  • Lead complex design initiatives, set standards, and deliver innovative solutions.

  • Apply user‑centered design strategies, testing, and validation to improve user experience.

  • Develop integrated design guidelines and prototypes that reflect holistic system thinking.

  • Strengthen collaboration across teams to support aligned and effective solutions.

  • Conduct research and analysis to generate insights that guide strategic, user‑focused decisions.

  • Contribute to organizational strategy, innovation, and design excellence.

Representation & Advocacy
  • Represent the Product & Identity Platform team within Experience Design and across Philips.

  • Collaborate with key P&IP functions such as CMF & Trends, EcoDesign, and DLS.

  • Promote the team’s role and capabilities internally and externally.

  • Create synergies within the team to increase organizational impact.

  • Advocate for Brand Licensing through best‑practice sharing, newsletters, and presentations.

  • Mentor junior designers and represent the Platform team in external forums.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product, Interaction, Visual, or UX Design (or equivalent).

  • 10+ years of industry experience, ideally in consumer electronics.

  • Expertise in managing brand‑driven design programs across products, UX, packaging, and marketing.

  • Strong soft‑influencing skills and an ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Comfortable presenting to senior leaders and collaborating with designers.

  • Strong team player with empathy, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative mindset.

  • Energetic, solution‑driven, optimistic, and focused on enabling others to succeed.

  • You are currently living in The Netherlands.

Ways of Working
  • Office‑based teams work in person at least three days per week (Amsterdam‑based role).

  • Regular travel to partner locations is required to ensure strong relationships and high‑quality outcomes.
