As a Senior Consultant You’ll Be
  • A passionate business analysis practitioner who has significant experience in more than just process modelling and requirements engineering, you can draw upon your know‑how to get stuff done for our clients in a pragmatic and impactful way.
  • Experienced in business analysis in different contexts from small improvement initiatives, through to user‑centred product‑led delivery, and ‘big‑system’ transformation across an entire organisation.

Key elements of the role
  • We expect our Senior Consultants to be accountable for all aspects of business analysis delivery within a specific project, product, or programme. You’ll be able to elevate when issues fall outside your ability or remit, proposing potential solutions and options for resolution.
  • You’ll largely play a billable consulting role, either independently supporting blended client teams (in‑house and potentially other third parties), or as part of a wider Herd team engagement.
  • You’ll lead on engagements with customers throughout all stages, and work independently, making decisions and gaining consensus on appropriate actions and decisions.
  • You may join engagements early‑on e.g. at an exploration or discovery stage, or later within the delivery lifecycle.
  • You’ll be encouraged to engage in wider professional communities, as well as share your experiences internally with other Herd folk and externally through blogs, podcasts, and speaking at events.
  • You may be required to write or contribute to case studies, articles, etc. to promote our capabilities and services.
  • From time to time, you’ll be asked to contribute to and support sales activities for bids, tenders, pre‑sales work, as well as support the production of Statements of Work.
  • Whilst not a current requirement, in the future you may be expected to task, or line manage mid‑level and junior BAs. This will involve caring for their wellbeing, supporting and championing their growth and development, managing performance, and being a first‑point of call.
  • Support hiring activities – carry out and contribute to CV/application sifting, development of assessments scenarios, be an interview panel member, and make hiring recommendations off the back of it.
  • We’re a small but growing scale‑up, so we’re looking for folk who’ll embrace that and get stuck in where needed.

  • You’ll be able to present your opinions clearly, defend your approach under pressure, and remain open to changing your mind when a better idea is presented.
  • You’ll be able to assess each piece of work independently and come up with the best approach to satisfy what’s required to a high standard.
  • You’ll endeavour to deliver your work in a visually appealing way wherever possible to attract people to want to engage with it and to stand out from the ordinary.
  • You’ll be comfortable in challenging customers and internal colleagues on how things are being done when you think there might be a better way, in a confident and considerate manner to ensure it’s received as was intended.
Desirable Experience
  • We do most of our work in Central Government, Local Authorities, Higher Education, and Charities, therefore experience in either of these sectors would be a plus.
  • First‑hand experience of working to the GOV.UK Service Standard would be another plus.
  • Any experience in data analysis using tools like Power BI, SQL, or Python.

Security clearance

Due to the types of clients we work with, you may be expected to undergo security vetting up to and including Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) levels. If you have any reason to believe that you may not pass such vetting, you must declare this as soon as possible, and this must be before any job offer is accepted. For this specific vacancy, you’ll need to hold active SC clearance and be able to start straight away.

Benefits

Location: Hybrid. Some expectation to travel to client sites as and when needed. You’re expected to visit our Sheffield office at least once per a month for a team meeting. Also where possible, we encourage people to work from the Sheffield office once a week.
