Job Overview

This is an opportunity to undertake one of the first national Day Case Anaesthesia fellowships focused on BADS criteria. The Fellowship is aimed at doctors who possess the primary FRCA (or equivalent) with a minimum of four years of anaesthetic experience, or senior trainees, CCT holders seeking further experience in a day‑case role, leadership and management skills within the NHS.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day case anaesthetic services, including case planning and delivery under consultant supervision.
  • Participate in a junior on‑call rota, providing on‑call for the intensive care unit, theatres or obstetrics as required.
  • Attend and contribute to BADS meetings, virtual anaesthetic reviews, theatre management group, and theatre productivity board meetings.
  • Develop and implement efficiency and quality improvement initiatives under guidance.
  • Complete QI and audit projects, including data capture, coding, and reporting.
  • Engage in leadership and management training and present outcomes at regional/national conferences.
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate staff and support educational programmes.
Training & Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration and Final FRCA or equivalent (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent) with a minimum of 4 years of anaesthetic experience.
  • Prior experience working as an anaesthetist in the UK.
Management & Leadership
  • Understanding of NHS strategy and current issues; interest in leadership and management.
  • Basic knowledge of management theory, IT skills, and presentation skills.
  • Participation in leadership and management courses.
  • Presentation of QI/service improvement at regional or national conferences.
Research, Audit and Teaching
  • Experience with audit, understanding of audit principles and delivery of audit projects.
  • Teaching experience with undergraduates, postgraduates and other professionals.
  • Medical publications or research activity background; higher research degree (MD, PhD or equivalent) and GCP certification.
  • Higher qualifications in medical education.
Supervision

The fellowship will be supervised by Dr Kaushik, Dr Kukreja or Dr Khandia, who will oversee clinical duties and provide education and management support. Fellows will collaborate on personal development plans and may rotate between sites (LGH, LRI, GGH).
