We are seeking an experienced Manager to oversee and ensure the efficient operation of staff and resources within our municipal contract in Manchester

This role requires a strategic leader who can maintain service quality, meet financial targets, and uphold company policies and legal obligations, all while managing strong client relationships.

As Senior Business Manager, you will be responsible for the overall safe, effective, and efficient contract delivery, ensuring compliance with performance, financial, and operational objectives. You will also lead change programs, develop new revenue opportunities, and drive continuous improvement.

Your core responsibilities
  • Deliver Financial and Performance Targets – Achieve budget goals and weekly KPIs, addressing variances with corrective actions.
  • Ensure Compliance and Safety – Uphold company policies, legal requirements, and health & safety standards for employees and site visitors.
  • Lead and Develop Staff – Manage contract staff effectively, reducing turnover, minimising absences, and recruiting and training employees.
  • Enhance Service Delivery – Monitor and improve performance standards to consistently meet client expectations.
  • Optimise Operations – Oversee workshop functions, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime and efficient resource utilisation.
  • Strengthen Client Relationships – Maintain strong partnerships with clients while managing service changes smoothly.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement – Lead contract enhancements, including route optimisation and workforce structuring.
  • Ensure Financial Accuracy – Oversee invoicing, payments, and reporting to ensure contract compliance and financial accountability.
Our essential requirements
  • Management & Operational Experience – Proven experience in general and operational management, with a strong track record in multi-skilled and unionised workforce leadership.
  • Financial & Commercial Acumen – Expertise in profit & loss management, tendering support, and contract mobilisation.Health & Safety Leadership – Strong background in overseeing health & safety compliance, preferably in the waste industry.
  • Change & Performance Management – Demonstrated ability to lead organisational change, optimise operations, and improve workforce performance.
  • Qualifications required – CPC and COT.
  • Desirable qualifications include NVQ Level 4+ in Business Management, IOSH, WAMITAB Level 4, and experience in municipal waste operations.
