Job description
About Tagomics

Tagomics is a Cambridge‑based biotechnology company developing a next‑generation multi‑omic biomarker discovery platform to transform how disease and organ health are understood, measured, and monitored.

Originating from pioneering research by Dr Robert Neely and colleagues at the University of Birmingham, our proprietary technology integrates genetic, epigenetic, and fragmentomic features from circulating cell‑free DNA. Combined with advanced bioinformatics and machine‑learning approaches, this enables deep biological insight across applications ranging from early cancer detection to drug safety and organ health monitoring.

Learn more about our technology from our recent scientific paper – TagomicsPaper.

As we move towards the launch of our first commercial products, Tagomics is entering an exciting phase of growth. We are expanding our multidisciplinary team and relocating to new laboratories and offices at Babraham Research Campus, one of Europe’s leading life‑science hubs.

Joining Tagomics means contributing to a scientifically rigorous, collaborative environment where your work will directly shape a unique technology that will transform our understanding of disease and diagnosis.

About The Role

You will play a leading role in planning and performing sequencing and epigenetic dataset analyses that drive Tagomics’s biomarker discovery programmes. Working at the interface of research and product development, you will lead and shape bioinformatics approaches applied to both exploratory R&D questions and the generation of robust, reusable analyses that support our product development.

Combining pipelines and cloud‑based infrastructure, you will take technical ownership of complex multi‑omic analyses and guide best practices across projects.

This role is suited to an experienced bioinformatician who is motivated to take on greater scientific and technical responsibility and contribute to projects with both scientific and commercial impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse sequencing and epigenetic datasets using Tagomics’s established bioinformatics workflows, providing technical oversight to ensure data are processed consistently and appropriately across projects.
  • Lead the development, optimisation, and review of computational pipelines, ensuring scalability, robustness, and usability as our R&D and product needs evolve.
  • Oversee quality control standards for sequencing data, ensuring analyses are based on consistent, reliable, and well‑understood inputs.
  • Drive the interpretation of multi‑omic results to inform biomarker discovery and application to cancer detection and organ health monitoring.
  • Work closely with laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, and engineers and provide inputs to define the experimental design, analytical strategy, and project direction.
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and introduce emerging bioinformatics methods and tools, guiding their adoption where they add value to ongoing analyses.
  • Provide technical guidance to other bioinformaticians, supporting skill development and sharing knowledge across the team.
  • Take ownership of high‑quality documentation and contributions to Tagomics’s codebase via Git‑based repositories, supporting reproducibility and effective collaboration.
Essential Requirements
  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, epigenetics, genetics, or a related discipline, with at least 3 years of experience in industry (preferable) or an academic setting.
  • Experience in leading complex NGS analyses in an academic or industry setting.
  • Strong experience using Python and/or R for data analysis, with proven adherence to best practices in software development and Git‑based version control.
  • Experience working with cloud‑based infrastructure (preferably AWS) and scalable computational workflows (e.g., Nextflow).
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts and results clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in epigenetics, cancer genomics, or related areas, with evidence of contribution to research.
  • Hands‑on experience with epigenetic or multi‑omic datasets, and a track record of turning complex data into biological insights.
  • Experience working in an industry or commercial bioinformatics environment.
  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary teams, including collaboration with product team, software engineers and commercial partners.
Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to lead analytical work independently and prioritise across multiple projects.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate results clearly and confidently to colleagues at different levels of technical expertise.
  • Well‑organised and able to manage workload and deadlines effectively.
  • Commitment to high coding standards, comprehensive documentation, testing, and reproducibility, and to promoting these practices within the team.
Approach to work: what we value
  • Curiosity, motivation, and adaptability.
  • Being collaborative and open to feedback.
  • Taking ownership and accountability for scientific and technical decisions.
  • Being committed to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Demonstrates integrity and accountability.
Hiring Process
  1. Screening Call – An online conversation to discuss your relevant experience, career goals, and answer your questions about the role and company.
  2. Technical Interview – A live online session assessing your technical abilities, including subject‑matter questions and a short presentation on a take‑home bioinformatics challenge.
  3. Team Interview – Meet with leadership and your future teammates to discuss collaboration, team dynamics, and how you’ll contribute to our projects.
