Description

Fresh Start in Education are looking for experienced and person-centred SEN Learning Support Assistants to work on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis with young people with learning, communication and sensory needs in their homes or other settings in the Oxford area. This role involves planning and delivering communication, life skills and basic literacy and numeracy skills sessions in creative, practical and engaging ways on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis. The role will also involve emotional and behavioural support and knowledge of Makaton, PECS or other communication systems is desirable.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Providing 1:1 or 2:1 support to children and young people in their homes or other settings in the Oxford area
  • Planning and delivering learning and engagement activities, as well as providing communication, emotional and behavioural support
  • Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
  • Engaging with students who may have autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, GDD or complex needs and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
  • Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills
Who we’re looking for:
  • Experience (at least 1 year) as teachers, tutors, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and education professionals who have directly supported young people with SEN/SEMH needs
  • A background in Early Years, Primary, Secondary, 16+ education or specialist SEND environments
  • Familiarity with PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies
  • De‑escalation and behaviour management skills
  • A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays available
  • An up‑to‑date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
