Stuart J Warrington & Co is Macclesfield’s last independent plumbers’ merchant — a trusted, family-run business serving the local trade for over 40 years. We’re now entering the next phase of development on our trade counter and bathroom offering, and we are looking for an experienced, confident Sales Counter Manager who is ready to take ownership and help drive growth.

The Role

This is a senior, hands‑on position responsible for running the trade counter day‑to‑day and helping us build a more proactive, profitable counter operation.

You will:

  • Lead the service at the trade counter for plumbers, heating engineers, builders, and retail customers
  • Actively quote and follow up bathroom, plumbing, and heating enquiries
  • Drive profitable sales by recommending alternatives, upselling, and building relationships
  • Manage customer orders, stock queries, supplier returns, and sourcing of non‑stock items
  • Take ownership of stock accuracy, pricing, and product presentation (supported by additional hours from our delivery/stock assistant)
  • Embrace the ongoing trade counter improvements, including the rollout of our new EPOS system
  • Work closely with the director to shape the future of the counter business and deliver agreed profit targets

This role combines customer service, technical knowledge, commercial awareness, and the autonomy to make decisions.

What We’re Looking For

You will be someone who:

  • Has strong plumbing/heating trade counter experience
  • Knows how to deal confidently with both trade and retail customers
  • Thinks commercially and understands margins, pricing, and profitability
  • Is proactive — not someone who waits for the next customer, but someone who builds relationships, follows up quotes, and drives sales
  • Can manage the counter operation while also contributing to bathroom quotations
  • Embraces change and is keen to help implement improvements
  • Is organised, accurate, and able to run the counter with minimal supervision
  • Wants to take ownership of results and be rewarded for performance

You’ll also have the support of additional resource (e.g., deliveries and stock replenishment) so you can focus on higher‑value work such as sales, quotations, and customer relationships.
