Job summary

A leading NHS trust in Nottingham is seeking a Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist. This exciting role requires a BSc in Healthcare Science and a minimum of three years' experience in a respiratory/sleep department. Candidates should be skilled in performing complex physiology investigations, training junior staff, and conducting sleep study reports. Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience at AFC Band 4/5 level in a respiratory/sleep department.
  • Currently performing the range of respiratory and sleep investigations listed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic and complex respiratory physiology investigations.
  • Report on sleep studies and present cases for the weekly MDT.
  • Initiate CPAP and conduct follow-ups and yearly reviews.
  • Administer clinical supervision and training for junior staff.

Skills

Knowledge of Quality and Infection Control Procedures pertaining to Respiratory / Sleep Physiology
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to use own initiative in unexpected situations
Willing and able to work as a team as well as independently
Physically able to move patients in wheelchairs and beds
Adaptable and flexible to start/finish times

Job description

Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist – Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, City Campus, including cross-town working at QMC Campus. The closing date is 28 December 2025.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the continuously growing Respiratory, Sleep and NIV physiology team at NUH. This permanent post is ideal for a recent graduate of the BSc Healthcare Science Degree (respiratory and sleep option) looking to advance their career.

Job responsibilities
  • Basic and more complex respiratory physiology investigations.

Qualifications / Experience
  • BSc Healthcare Science Degree (respiratory and sleep option)
  • Minimum 3 years experience at AFC Band 4/5 level in a respiratory/sleep department
  • Currently performing the range of respiratory and sleep investigations listed above
  • Completion of a leadership training course
  • Documented evidence of working as a trainee physiologist
  • Evidence of completing respiratory physiology reports
  • Evidence of organising own activity around other clinical commitments
  • Evidence of ability to cope under stressful situations
Skills
  • Knowledge of Quality and Infection Control Procedures pertaining to Respiratory / Sleep Physiology
  • Ability to use Trust PAS systems (Nerve Centre, Notis, WebHiss, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (high level of attention to detail)
  • Ability to use own initiative in unexpected situations
  • Willing and able to work as a team as well as independently
  • Physically able to move patients in wheelchairs and beds and operate equipment as required
  • Adaptable and flexible to start/finish times of the department to meet workload demands
