Job description

The post holder will assist in the provision of a high quality imaging service by performing clinical imaging duties within the Radiology Department and supporting the Department in providing a timely radiographic service on a 24/7 basis. The post holder will be flexible In their approach as the Radiology Department is constantly changing so that it can provide a service that meets Local and National Modernisation Agendas.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the staff, Service Manager and Radiologists to deliver a first class service
  • Collaborate with other reporting radiographers to facilitate an effective, timely and flexible plain/ general image reporting service that will reduce waiting times for clinical reports.
  • Contribute to the provision of a Radiographic Service by performing clinical radiographic duties within the Radiology Services.
  • Work safely in line with all relevant legislation, in an environment with potential exposure to human bodily fluids and hazardous substances and occasionally unpleasant or distressing circumstances.
  • Participate in and help develop the service generally and in their specialised area(s) in particular.
  • Have the freedom/discretion to make independent clinical decisions under broad professional guidelines.
  • Practice in accordance with the College of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct as well as being accountable for own professional actions and conduct.
  • Monitor and develop policies and procedures within the department and ensure that safety measures are maintained.
  • Supervise other staff providing advice and support as well as supervising colleagues of equal grade whilst undertaking the specialist role.

Job responsibilities
  • To perform clinical imaging duties
  • To complete a recognised course to enable them to independently report MSK, chest and abdomen plain images.
  • To organise and prioritise their workload and that of junior staff working in their clinical area.
  • To be flexible and supportive of the changes within the Radiology Services that is in response to Local and National Modernisation Agendas.
  • To contribute to the delivery of a timely, high quality radiographic service, comprising a wide variety of imaging modalities.
  • To adapt skills and knowledge, in response to technological advancements that enhance overall patient care.
  • To act as the first line management for radiographers and undertake a supervisory role over the band 5 radiographers, students and assistant practitioners.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and protection of individuals and groups, whose health and well-being may be at risk with respect to radiation safety.
  • Establish and maintain communication with staff and patients on routine operational matters and overcoming any differences in communication between those involved.
  • Monitor and maintain Health & Safety and Security.
  • Contribute to Service Development.
  • Contribute to Quality Improvement.
  • Support peoples Equal Diversity and Rights.
  • Contribute to Service Development, Quality Improvements and take an active role in Safecare (Clinical Governance) activities. Support Lead Radiographer in improving quality of service whilst working towards the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme.
