Renewable Energy Engineer - Onshore Wind, Solar PV and Hydropower

Are you an experienced renewable energy engineer or looking to move into the renewables sector? Several exciting positions are available at Renewables First – one of the UK’s leading renewable energy consultancy and project delivery businesses, specialising in the commercial application of onshore wind, solar PV, hydropower and energy storage. Offering their customers whole project capability from feasibility stage, consenting, design, installation and ongoing operational support.

Based in Stroud, Gloucestershire, the company is looking to build its team in response to a growing market, particularly for onshore wind and commercial‑scale solar PV. Priding itself on offering high‑quality renewable energy solutions (50 kW to 4+ MW) that reduce or eliminate clients CO2 emissions. Providing the best technical advice to support informed decisions, they further their knowledge through offering the whole development package from identification of the renewable resource, completing the whole design and consenting process and then actually building it. Their existing team of 9 engineers work in a collaborative and constructive way to support the team’s development and ensure the highest standards of service for their clients. The company operates a no‑blame culture, seeing mistakes as an opportunity to learn and grow. They hold strong values promising never to greenwash and never to mislead or miss‑sell.

They are looking for talented engineers with a passion for system level design and deep analysis who also want the opportunity to go to site and be involved in the construction. Within the role you will build experience in all technology areas, being trained and learning from more experienced staff as you take ownership of early‑stage site assessments and monitoring of existing systems. A solid understanding of the technologies will provide a strong foundation for progression into system design and consenting stages, followed by installation activities. You will be encouraged to manage all aspects of projects from technical design and performance to customer relations, and commercial responsibility. With significant company growth forecast in the medium term will come opportunities for personal growth. To maximise team collaboration and development the roles are office based.

About you
  • Probably a degree‑qualified engineer with a mechanical or civils bias, but open to all competent applicants
  • Ideally experienced, but good graduates will also be considered
  • Strong IT skills including CAD and data analysis
  • Demonstrable practical skills
  • Knowledge of electrics, renewables, planning consenting and project management an advantage
  • Design and specification experience useful
  • Technical analysis and concise report writing experience
  • Able to follow policies and procedures
  • An appreciation of budgets, timescales and commercial contracts
  • A self‑assured can‑do attitude, initiative to solve problems and determination to succeed
  • Driving licence
