Job description

Hey! We're Huel, and we're pleased to meet you 👋

Our culture thrives on high performance, and we set the bar high for new Hueligans who join us.

We invite you to read the advert below for our new Quality Technologist position to understand the role, and explore our 7 Huel values before applying to ensure we have the right working environment for you!

The role

Our customers deserve the best, and we want every Huel product they enjoy to feel first-class. To make that happen, we’re hiring a Quality Technologist who can help keep our product quality and consistency spot on. You’ll be checking everything from raw materials to finished products across our global co-manufacturers and our Huel MK site. If you want to bring your experience to a passionate, fast-moving brand, and keep growing yourself, this is a great opportunity.

You’ll uphold high standards and drive continuous improvement, championing product reliability, reducing risk, and spotting issues early. Using strong relationships across the business, you’ll help deliver quick, effective solutions and won’t hesitate to speak up when you see a better way of doing things.

This role sits within the UK Technical Team, protecting our products and brand. You’ll split your time between our Tring HQ and our Milton Keynes manufacturing site, working closely with the wider Huel Technical Team and supporting our US and global Operations teams when needed.

Here's an insight into your day to day:

  • Manage the testing schedule for finished products across co-manufacturers and Huel Factory, taking appropriate action on finished goods - controlling food safety, allergens, heavy metals and any other risks to the business
  • Review and support risk assessment on micro & allergen testing, working collaboratively with Head of Technical and Ingredients Technical Manager
  • Support with raw material and sampling testing schedules
  • Manage Huel’s 3rd party accreditations including KLBD Kosher, HFA Halal, Coeliac Society, Vegan Society, NSF and non-GMO
  • Review existing products for annual renewal and complete new product applications
  • Manage co-manufacturer and Huel accreditation audit schedules
  • Lead on onboarding for new accreditation bodies
  • Support complex customer queries on regulations or compliance e.g. allergens or label queries, utilising the existing experience and skill within the Technical team
  • Host quarterly lab meeting with our external testing labs across the UK, EU and US - review performance and improvements
  • Review and develop KPI scoring for Technical monthly meetings, including scoring analysis and presentation to the wider technical team
  • Maintain the Technical finished product testing budget and manage POs
  • Support with completing internal site audits
  • Drive business improvement through identifying key initiatives
  • Support for a variety of technical projects and initiatives within R&C and the wider technical team
What we're looking for in you

This role will best suit someone with 1-2 years + experience of a similar role within a food manufacturing business e.g. Technical assistant, QC/QA, artwork. You'll ideally have someknowledge and exposure toaccreditations such as (but not limited to) BRC, SQF (GFSI), Kosher, Halal, Organic, Non-GMO & NSF. You'll also need to be:

  • Analytical and driven to get the job done with reliability
  • Ok with challenge culture: question ideas & ways of working not only within regulatory & compliance, but within the Technical team.
  • Thorough understanding of food safety criteria, necessity for challenge and risk reduction
  • Strong understanding of food legislation and food manufacturing standards
  • Experience with risk assessment, UK/EU and US allergens, heavy metals, and micro
  • Ability to build strong relationships, including negotiation and influence with suppliers and manufacturers where required

And as always, we’re on the lookout for new Hueligans who love a fast-paced environment and are always striving to be their best. We want people who aren’t afraid to think differently and push boundaries. If you’re all about setting big goals and believe that amazing things happen through creativity and teamwork, you’ll fit right in at Huel!
