Job description
📈 Who We Are:

We're rebuilding the energy transaction system, making it transparent and fair.

tem exists to put power back in the hands of people. Today’s wholesale energy market is stacked in favour of the few. It's a product of an age of oil and gas, riddled with markups and middlemen. We’re changing that.

Our product, RED™, built on a proprietary pricing engine that bypasses the wholesale market, enables businesses to buy the energy produced by renewable generators directly. That's 100% transparent transactions, ensuring affordable bills and fair compensation, to give every business ownership and control over where their energy comes from.

Since launching in 2021, we’ve saved UK businesses and generators over £20 million, powering a growing network of forward-thinking companies, from Pizza Pilgrims to Silverstone. Backed by top-tier VCs such as Atomico and Albion, we’re creating a new category in energy - one that’s local, decentralised, and built on trust.

🏅 The Role:

We’re looking for a QA Engineer to be a quality champion across our product lifecycle, ensuring that every feature we ship is reliable, intuitive, and ready for real-world use. This role exists to bring rigour and clarity to how we define, test, and validate complex energy products - spanning internal pricing and tendering tools through to customer-facing self-service and insights portals.

In your first 12 months, you’ll play a critical role in major product launches by shaping test strategies early, uncovering edge cases before customers do, and raising the bar for acceptance quality across the team. Your work will directly improve release confidence, reduce production issues, and help us scale our platform without compromising on user experience.

🚀 Responsibilities:
  • Own end-to-end quality for key product launches: Design and execute comprehensive test plans for major initiatives, ensuring critical paths, edge cases, and real-world usage scenarios are fully covered before release.

  • Embed quality early in delivery: Partner closely with product managers and engineers to define clear acceptance criteria and testing strategies at the story and project level, reducing rework and late surprises.

  • Deliver confident releases: Lead manual acceptance testing across internal systems and customer-facing products, validating functionality, UX, integrations, and APIs to ensure production-ready outcomes.

  • Drive fast, clear feedback loops: Identify, document, and track defects using structured templates, collaborating with engineers to resolve issues quickly and prevent regressions.

  • Continuously improve how we test: Evolve QA processes, documentation, and tooling - leveraging AI where appropriate - to increase efficiency, consistency, and overall product quality as the team scales.

🎯 Requirements:

Must-Haves

  • Proven experience owning quality for web products: 3+ years working in a manual QA role where you were responsible for defining test plans and acceptance coverage for complex, user-facing web applications.

  • Experience partnering closely with product & engineering: A track record of working in cross-functional, agile teams where you helped shape acceptance criteria early and influenced how features were delivered.

  • Strong written documentation in English: Demonstrated ability to write clear, structured test cases, bug reports, and QA documentation that enables fast understanding and action.

  • Comfortable testing complex domains: Experience validating systems with multiple flows, edge cases, and integrations (e.g. pricing logic, internal tools, APIs, or data-driven products).

  • Ability to operate with ambiguity: Experience working in fast-moving environments where requirements evolve and you’ve helped bring clarity through thoughtful testing and questioning.

Desirable (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Exposure to test automation concepts: Experience working alongside automated test suites or contributing lightweight automation (e.g. Playwright, Selenium, or pytest), even if manual testing is your primary focus.

  • Tooling & productivity mindset: Experience using QA and delivery tools such as Qase, Xray, Linear, or Notion - and leveraging AI tools to improve testing efficiency and documentation quality.

✨ Benefits & Perks:
  • Competitive salary - our current band for this role is £64,600

    • We review salaries twice a year using real-time market data, with transparent, consistent pay for the same role and level.

  • Stock Options - everyone on the team has ownership in our mission.

  • 25 days holiday + public holidays - Swap public holidays for ones that matter most to you. Plus, get an extra day off for your birthday 🎉.

  • Remote & flexible working - We’re fully remote with clear core hours, and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons.

  • Home working & wellbeing budgets:

    • Up to £1,200 / €1,200 annually to upgrade your remote setup (co-working passes, equipment, etc.).

    • Up to £150 / €150 monthly on anything that supports your wellbeing - from therapy to gym memberships to meditation apps.

🗣️ Interview Process:

Our processes normally take around 2-3 weeks from first call to offer - please let us know about any adjustments to timelines that may be required.

  1. First call with our Talent Team (30 Mins). This is to understand your experience, motivations, and discuss the role in more detail.

  2. Behaviour Interview with the Hiring Manager (60 Mins). This is your chance to really understand the role, the expectations, and ensure alignment on ways of working.

  3. Skills Interview with the Team (60-90 Mins). You’ll meet with potential peers in this session and will work through a practical test planning exercise, writing test scenarios and document bugs, before discussing your testing approach and prioritisation.

  4. Culture-Add Interview with Stakeholders (45 Mins). The final session will be with two cross-functional stakeholders, and will explore how your values align with ours, and is designed to be a genuine two-way conversation, your chance to understand what it’s really like to work at tem.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities, including those that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech and energy sectors. If you’re excited about this role but not sure you meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Your unique perspective could be exactly what we’re looking for.
