Croydon Shire Council is seeking a methodical and organised Procurement Officer to oversee and improve Council’s procurement and accounts payable processes. This role supports the delivery of Council works and projects by ensuring purchases are cost-effective, timely, compliant and high quality. The Position

The Procurement Officer is responsible for managing the procurement of goods and services, establishing and maintaining preferred supplier arrangements, preparing and administering contract and tender documentation, and ensuring accounts payable complies with all relevant Council and legislative requirements. The role works closely with the Director Corporate Services and with internal management teams to support transparency, efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and review Council’s procurement policies, procedures, and preferred supplier arrangements in line with best practice and legislation.

Prepare and administer contract and tender documents, reports and presentations; manage tender evaluation processes.

Ensure procurement, purchasing and accounts payable records are accurate and compliant with financial accounting standards.

Provide advice, mentoring, and support to Council staff in procurement matters.

Contribute to continuous improvement: update templates, guidelines, and software; identify efficiencies and promote Council’s procurement system internally.

Skills & Experience Required

Relevant tertiary qualification or substantial experience in a procurement environment.

Demonstrated experience in contracts, tenders and procurement processes.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, and working knowledge of procurement software.

Strong mathematical, planning and organisational capability.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to liaise with suppliers, staff and stakeholders.

Previous local government experience is desirable but not essential
