Job summary

A leading manufacturing company in King's Lynn is offering a 3-year Process Industry Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship. You will learn about paper manufacture processes, participate in mill operations, and gain practical skills. Applicants should have English, Maths, and Science GCSEs and be motivated to learn. Accommodation and travel for college training will be provided, with a start date in summer 2026.

Company overview

The Palm Group, with 4,800 employees, is a leading supplier in Europe of newsprint and corrugated base paper made from 100% recycled paper as well as corrugated, cardboard packaging.

Palm Paper Limited (PM7) is the UK site for the Palm Group based in King’s Lynn, manufacturing graphic papers. PM7 is the widest, largest and most powerful newsprint machine in the world with the capacity to produce 400,000 metric tonnes of newsprint, improved newsprint and magazine grades per annum.

About the Apprenticeship
  • A 3 year programme, achieving a Level 3 Process Industry and Manufacturing Technician qualification
  • Working onsite Monday to Friday, attending Catch College, Grimsby on a block release basis (1 or 2 week blocks). Accommodation and travel provided
  • A mixture of face-to-face and online learning
  • Progress into a shift based role in production
  • Starting in summer 2026
About you
  • Excellent communication skills, well organised and motivated to independent studies
  • A minimum of English, Maths and Science GCSE grade 9-4 / A*-C
  • Be living and eligible to work in the UK
  • Good IT Skills, in particular MS Office applications
  • Ability to learn new subjects and apply this to the workplace
What will you learn:
  • Understand the operation of the key processes for paper manufacture and recycled paper cleaning, combined heat and power generation and waste water treatment
  • To actively participate in daily operation of the mill
  • Gain a good knowledge of various processes and industrial equipment
  • Develop skills to troubleshoot process issues
  • Understand the site procedures and policies around health and safety, compliance and product quality
