Qualifications

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Principal Structural Engineer with a strong design background to support our structural engineering team in Bristol. The team undertakes a wide variety of projects for the private and public sector across development sectors, providing integrated solutions incorporating state of the art design.

Responsibilities

You will assist in the design and management of structural engineering works for a wide variety of major and challenging infrastructure projects for the private and public sector. You will strengthen our design and delivery capacity and work with a broad range of projects, from concept to delivery. You will manage small teams, coordinate with other design disciplines, and be the client’s main point of contact. Projects may include significant estate portfolios or smaller individual projects, typically a mix of new-build and refurbishment across sectors such as healthcare, education, defence & security, commercial, science & technology, and others. You will lead independently on technical aspects including preparing designs, specifications, technical approval submissions, and site supervision, and be fully conversant with industry design standards. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with senior management on research projects and innovative initiatives.

  • Be a chartered civil or structural engineer (CEng and either MICE or MIStructE).
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work independently, a collaborative approach, and a proven ability to deliver work on time.
  • Be confident working directly with clients, other design professionals, and contractors.
  • Have strong experience with structural engineering projects demonstrated through drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
  • Have technical knowledge including industry-standard software (ideally Tekla/Robot) and basic ability with Revit.
  • Have experience in commercial management of projects and change control.
  • Be committed to health and safety practices within the workplace and in design.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and versatility as a team player.
  • Be able to mentor and support team members.
  • Desire to build upon your experience with ongoing professional development at Tetra Tech.
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
  • Have the ability to obtain UK security clearance.
