Overview

Principal/Senior or Experienced HV Plant Design Engineer (Substation Design) for Stantec. This role supports FEED design and detailed design for substation refurbishment/extensions and new-build projects within the Energy team. Projects may include HVDC, interconnectors, windfarms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, new builds, refurbishment works, connections schemes, and related power system components. The role involves working with multidisciplinary teams and key T&D clients in the UK to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges. This is part of Stantec’s UK Energy Transition efforts and offers opportunities for growth and development within the team.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the HV team on electrical substation design projects, supporting/leading FEED design and detailed design for refurbishment, extensions, and new-builds.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and clients to deliver innovative and sustainable electrical power system solutions.
  • Provide coaching and share knowledge within the energy team; contribute to industry best practices and the engineering community.
  • Engage with clients to understand requirements and develop designs that meet project goals and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the UK energy transition initiatives through high-quality engineering outputs and collaborative project delivery.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field; experience as HV Substation / Primary Plant Design Engineer.
  • Proven experience in design and specification production for HV Substation plant electrical power systems and components; understanding of Protection & Control is preferable.
  • Proactive, with knowledge of the electricity transmission and distribution industry; ability to coach and work with a broader energy team.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and knowledge-sharing skills; willingness to learn and adapt to diverse technical backgrounds.
  • Proactive learner with a willingness to develop and apply innovative solutions; Bachelors degree or equivalent in a related technical field.
