Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for creating sustainable solutions? Join Stantec and help us tackle our communities' urgent climate, environmental, and efficiency challenges!

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join us in our office in Leeds or Cambridge. With hybrid working allowing for a combination of in-office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry-leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.

Across Stantec, we are building on a highly successful period of growth. We enable the delivery of sustainable development and infrastructure projects that adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. We are also responding to the current ecological crisis in the UK by designing infrastructure that conforms to the Eel Regulations 2009.

Responsibilities
  • Involve yourself in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to achieve positive project and community outcomes.
  • Manage and guide junior team members and support their development.
  • Produce and review technical outputs such as technical specifications, reports, and pumping/water system sizing and design.
  • Provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines (e.g., General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Deliver technical presentations to clients and design engineers and participate in collaborative design discussions, workshops, safety reviews (including HAZOPs and ALMs).
  • Provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.
  • Assess existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver mechanical design for lowland drainage pumping stations; understand Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications for flood and coastal pumping stations.
About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is ideally chartered with the IMechE, has experience in mechanical design, and is ideally experienced with pump station optioneering, design, construction management, and commissioning.

You will be experienced in producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules, and be familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, and providing construction and commissioning services.

You will be able to provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. To be successful in this role, you will have strong communication skills and be able to deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, as well as input into collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops and safety reviews (HAZOPs and ALMs). You will also be able to provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.

You will understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and gain experience in assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design. You will also have an awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations. We would also be interested in speaking with candidates who have experience within the energy, infrastructure & water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity.
