Principal Civil Engineer

Location: Dunfermline, Scotland

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000

Overview

This role is for a senior design and delivery lead within an eco‑conscious multidisciplinary consultancy that is establishing a new office in the Dunfermline area. You will build and lead a newly‑established team of design engineers and deliver a range of challenging infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee a portfolio of projects and developments
  • Manage day‑to‑day running of projects from inception to delivery and implementation
  • Provide mentorship and support to colleagues and oversee their CPD
  • Build and maintain professional relations with clients and other stakeholders across public and private sectors
  • Prepare, check and submit technical documents including reports, drawings, calculations and risk assessments
  • Subscribe to and promote company policies, procedures and best practice
  • Ensure appropriate health and safety standards are enforced at all times
  • Contribute to business development strategies and act as a trusted representative at client meetings, site visits and other events
Required Skills and Experience
  • UK Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or similar discipline
  • Chartered status with a recognised professional body (e.g., ICE)
  • Extensive experience in a design‑based role within a UK consultancy
  • Demonstrable experience with infrastructure (drainage, highways), housing developments, and energy projects
  • Experience with earthworks design and drainage network modelling
  • Proficiency in software such as Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Strong background in writing, checking and amending technical reports for submission
  • Experience leading people and projects in the sector
  • Track record of managing client and stakeholder relations
  • Outstanding organisational, time‑management, team‑leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Full, valid UK driving licence
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • UK Master’s Degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience authoring Flood Risk Assessments
  • Experience preparing Transport Assessments
  • Experience working in a public‑facing role
