We provide a thorough training programme to support your journey to become an approved Functional Assessor. This role is ideal for individuals who are open to a formalised retraining program, receptive to ongoing constructive feedback, and comfortable with producing detailed written reports.

What you can expect
  • Full training and support to achieve DWP accreditation.
  • Work from home 2 days per week (full time) or 1–2 days per week (part time).
  • Opportunities for development: Training Lead, Quality Lead, Clinical Practice Lead, and roles across the wider APM Group.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out Functional Assessments covering physical, mental, intellectual and cognitive functions to determine work eligibility.
  • Use decision‑making skills to conduct clinical triage of completed forms and supporting documents.
  • Obtain additional evidence through active listening and appropriate questioning.
  • Apply critical thinking and logical reasoning to produce accurate and detailed reports for the Department of Work and Pensions.
  • Liaise with clinical peers across the NHS, private healthcare, charities and support organisations to gather and evaluate evidence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high‑quality service to claimants and contribute to continuous improvement of health assessment services.
Qualifications
  • At least 12 months UK‑based post‑registration experience as an NMC registered adult Nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD) or HCPC registered Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Paramedic.
  • Experience treating a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.
  • Strong critical thinking, active listening and logical reasoning skills.
  • Good typing skills and proficiency in IT tools for documentation and communication.
  • Comfort with computers and detailed reporting.
