Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Allied Health Professional team in Mental Health within the Black Country. The role will allow the successful applicant to develop clinical and leadership skills in a fast paced hospital environments, whilst working as part of a multi professional team on the Inpatient Wards. This is an opportunity to establish your skills and knowledge in a specialist Physiotherapy service and be part of striving for excellence for our patient population. The Trust is dedicated to the development of its staff and there are a wide range of learning and training opportunities available.

The multi-disciplinary team provides both specialist assessments to service users experiencing acute mental health crisis and offers a needs led, recovery focused, individual and group based activity and therapy programme, supporting individuals recovering from mental health crisis and additional physical health conditions.

We are looking for somebody who is ambitious, enthusiastic, has a desire to learn, with a genuine interest in working with this patient group.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will Assist the physio team to provide high standard Physiotherapy assessment and treatment interventions to people with mental health needs, including dementia and mental health diagnosis’, within specified inpatient setting. The post holder will develop their evidence based knowledge and client centred practice in this field to support the physio team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate one to one and group based interventions within the setting. The post holder will be supported by registered physio staff, be allocated work, provided ongoing support on a daily basis, as well as receiving supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To provide support to the physio team to deliver a high standard of physio
  • Support the team to provide therapy to people experiencing an acute mental health crisis within the inpatient setting as part of Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
  • to support the team to carry out duties autonomously but with the ability to seek support and informal and formal supervision from senior clinicians.
  • To support the team to educate and advise service-users/carers and the wider MDT, to equip them with the necessary skills to promote independence.

  • Good general education eg 5 GCSE or equivalent
