We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Primary Care team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A prison located in London.

HMP Belmarsh is a maximum security prison based in London with a capacity for around 800. We are recruiting for an Outpatients Healthcare Assistant who will provide high-quality clinical and Non-Clinical support.

The post holder will support the delivery of primary care, physical health, mental health, and learning disability services, ensuring care is delivered safely, respectfully, and in line with NHS standards, prison security requirements, and professional boundaries. You must have experience in phlebotomy to be considered for this role.

Hours

Monday - Friday 09:30 - 16:30

Salary

This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £32,134per annum FTE – depending on experience.

What you'll be doing

As a Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Undertake NHS Health Checks in accordance with national and local protocols
  • Assist with and conduct Physical Health checks for Mental Health and Learning Disability patients, escalating concerns to the appropriate clinician
  • Perform phlebotomy competently and safely, maintaining infection prevention and control standards
  • Provide wound care, including dressing changes and monitoring healing, within HCA scope of practice
  • Accurately record all clinical activity in electronic patient records
  • Observe, monitor, and report changes in patients’ physical or mental health to registered staff

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
