Role Purpose

The Nuclear Equipment Surveyor role requires a combination of administrative and technical skills. In the pre-manufacturing phase the Surveyor will review procedures and inspection plans to establish conformity with international codes and standards and project specific requirements. The Surveyor will need good communication skills both written and verbal in on-line and face to face meetings to explain the findings of the reviews to the manufacturer and the end client. In the manufacturing phase the Surveyor will supervise remotely on-site inspectors, review and collate inspection reports and communicate findings to the end customer for their action. Further attendance at on-line and face to face meetings will be required along with periodic visits to manufacturing locations in the UK and Europe. Technical skills required include welding, materials, heat treatment and NDT. It is recognised that candidates may not be experts in all these topics and the LRQA Nuclear Team has dedicated experts in each of these fields who will provide support. The ability to use and understand international standards such as ASME and BS EN ISO series is vital. Training will be provided on industry specific codes such as RCC-M. This role will be predominantly home based so candidates will need to be comfortable working unsupervised for extended periods. The role is restricted to UK Nationals and security clearance will need to be undertaken.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review procedures and inspection plans to establish conformity with international codes and standards and project specific requirements.
  • Conduct inspections on site
  • Technical decision maker
  • Create and issue inspection deliverables
  • Supervise on-site inspectors, review and collate inspection reports and communicate findings to the end customer for their actions.
  • Attendance at on-line and face to face meetings will be required along with periodic visits to manufacturing locations in the UK and Europe
  • Responsible to attend meetings to explain the findings of the reviews to the manufacturer and the end client.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Technical skills required include welding, materials, heat treatment and NDT.
  • Ability to use and understand international standards such as ASME and BS EN ISO series is vital.

Note: It is recognized that candidates may not be experts in all these topics and the LRQA Nuclear Team has dedicated experts in each of these fields who will provide support. This role will be predominantly home based (office location - South West England) so candidates will need to be comfortable working unsupervised for extended periods. The role is restricted to UK Nationals and security clearance will need to be undertaken.
