Job Responsibilities
- Overnight Monitoring: Conduct regular welfare checks throughout the night; monitor the safety, wellbeing, and environment of residents/clients.
- Responding to Needs: Attend promptly to calls for assistance (e.g., toileting, mobility support, reassurance); provide personal care as needed during the night.
- Maintaining a Calm Environment: Create a peaceful, safe, and respectful overnight atmosphere; support individuals experiencing anxiety, confusion, or restlessness.
- Medication Administration: Administer or prompt night-time medication according to care plans (if trained); record medication administration accurately.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of incidents, care given, and observations during the shift; complete handover notes for day staff.
- Emergency Response: Act calmly and effectively in emergencies (falls, illness, fire alarms, etc.); follow protocols and contact emergency services or on-call managers when necessary.
- Household Duties: Perform light cleaning tasks (e.g., sanitizing communal areas, laundry); ensure the environment remains tidy and hazard-free overnight.
- Safeguarding and Confidentiality: Be alert to safeguarding concerns and report appropriately; maintain client confidentiality at all times.
- Communication and Handover: Provide detailed handovers to day staff at shift change; communicate any concerns or changes in condition effectively.
- Adherence to Policies: Follow the organisation’s care standards, health and safety rules, and night-time protocols.
Qualification Requirements
- Prior experience in a care environment
- Ability to work night shifts (10 PM – 7 AM)
- Excellent communication and observation skills
- Enhanced DBS check required
