Night Leakage Inspector – Yorkshire Water

Location: Smithy Wood, Sheffield. Working pattern: rolling 3 weeks of nights (Monday‑Thursday) and 1 week of days (Monday‑Friday), 37 hrs per week. Permanent.

Role Purpose

The Night Leakage Inspector carries out advanced leakage investigation activities across the most problematic DMA’s. Activities include step testing, advanced sounding, and utilisation of new leakage technologies to locate and promote leakage for repair. The role supports network optimisation, meter servicing, commercial usage investigations and team‑directed work.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate DMAs at night using advanced detection activities to locate and promote leakage, contributing to leakage level reduction.
  • Account for usage to eliminate non‑leakage from reporting.
  • Work with Engineering Team and Night Team Leader to prioritise investigation areas.
  • Carry out risk assessments to ensure all activities are safe with minimal customer impact.
  • Validate and quantify promoted leakage to service partners for optimal reduction.
  • Maintain relationships with field and service partner personnel to support leakage reduction and job resolution.
  • Take ownership of private leakage jobs and manage through resolution.
  • Take responsibility for own health and safety and that of others through leadership by example and reporting through corporate systems.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Designing and implementing complex technical step tests.
  • Zero‑pressure testing, zone integrity tests & pressure logging.
  • Acoustic sounding equipment (listening sticks & ground microphones).
  • Correlation equipment use, velocity checks and hydrophone use.
  • Fixed and lift‑and‑shift acoustic loggers.
  • Interpreting correlating logger data.
  • Use Netbase (Latis Lite) to analyse DMA day/night usage patterns.
  • Effectively quantify and validate leakage.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours (consecutive nights).
  • NRSWA, Water Hygiene and Manual Handling training.
  • Full clean driving licence.
