Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer
Location: Oxfordshire (Haddenham, Aylesbury)
Shift Pattern
Double‑day shift: Week 1 06:00–14:00, Week 2 13:45–22:00
Main Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Ensure Site PPE policy and LOTO procedures are followed.
- Ensure safe working of engineering functions, particularly in isolation and safe entry areas.
- Provide safety walk information to the Operations Team using the in‑house reporting system.
- Make the workplace a safe environment by ensuring all company and legal requirements are met and maintained.
- Maintain, check and record safety equipment.
- Promote safe working practices at all times with all checks and job sign‑offs completed.
Quality
- Adhere to and document all Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure Engineering GMP targets are met and understood by all team members.
- Understand and apply food safety legislation, including HACCP, ensuring outputs meet these standards.
- Ensure documentation is completed, filed and available for internal and external auditors.
- Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to improve operating practices and enhance product quality and customer service.
- Ensure full compliance with company quality, food safety, health & safety and environmental requirements.
- Assist with integrating new equipment with manufacturing, operations and project teams.
Operational
- Multi‑skilled – Electrical, Mechanical and Controls.
- Attend Daily Engineering meetings and contribute on safety, quality and operational KPIs where appropriate.
- Cover Senior Shift Engineers in DDS meetings in collaboration with operations and quality teams.
- Record all work on CMMS and ensure parts are booked out as appropriate.
- Execute planned maintenance activities with the Engineering Team Leader.
- Coordinate with stores personnel to ensure correct spare parts are available.
- Report shift issues in writing, ensuring successful information transfer to the on‑coming shift’s Senior Engineer.
- Control contractors, ensuring appropriate risk assessment, LOTO procedures and permit procedures are complied with.
- Ensure PPM schedules and work orders are completed within agreed time frames, closing out breakdowns where necessary and advising on required parts.
- After maintenance, confirm equipment is serviceable and ready for production.
Candidate Profile
- Time‑served Engineer – minimum NVQ 3 UK Electrical or Mechanical (or equivalent).
- Solid experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment (food or consumer products industry preferred).
- Strong general Electrical and/or Mechanical engineering skills and knowledge.
- Experience in fault‑finding.
- Awareness of HACCP, PUWER, LOLER and COSHH.
- Effective team player, able to work on own initiative and highlight continuous improvement opportunities.
- PC literate (experience using Office 365 suite).
- Ability to troubleshoot and fault‑find within a production facility.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal customers.
- Ability to interpret schematic diagrams accurately.
- Logical thinker and problem solver with energy and drive to get things done.
- Organised methodology and ability to plan to a specified time scale.
