Job description
About Lightyear

We’re on a mission to make investing better for everyone in Europe. More specifically, we’re making it light years better (sorry… we had to!). We’re combining multi-currency accounts with unlimited access to global markets so that everyone in Europe can invest without sneaky hidden fees or unnecessary barriers.

In just four years, we’ve gone from idea to fully regulated in both the UK and EU, launched across 25 countries, raised $58M, and built a 70+ strong team from Europe’s top fintechs and startups.

We’re backed by a stellar line‑up of investors – including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sir Richard Branson, Mosaic Ventures, NordicNinja, and some of Europe’s top founders like Taavet Hin (Wise), Jaan Tallinn (Skype), and Markus Villig (Bolt).

What you will do

This is not a “ticket factory” role. We are looking for a Product‑minded Engineer to join us as a core member of our team and help us define and build the foundations of our investment platform. You will have real influence over how things are done and plenty of room to challenge ideas, propose better solutions and leave a lasting mark on the product and the engineering culture.

  • Build and own major parts of our customer‑facing mobile application
  • Work closely with product managers, designers and other engineers to ship things users actually want
  • Make pragmatic technical decisions together with the CTO (tooling, architecture, delivery practices)
  • Develop high‑performance, production‑grade applications and improve existing systems over time
  • Take end‑to‑end ownership: from implementation to release and monitoring in production
  • Review code and help set quality standards as the team grows
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional mobile development experience
  • Experience with Dart / Flutter is a very strong plus, but not a must
  • Experience in product‑focused application development
  • You have a solid command of written and spoken English, which you use to communicate clearly and succinctly with other members of the team. You are comfortable writing reports and documentation.
  • An understanding of the investment world is great, but it’s not required. A willingness to learn about it is a must, though!
Benefits

💵 A competitive startup package including tax‑advantaged EMI stock options that vest monthly after a one‑year cliff

📍 Offices in central London (Old Street)

⏰ Flexible working hours

🏡 A flexible approach to working remotely

🏥 Private health insurance

👪 Enhanced parental leave

☕️ All the usual office facilities, including free tea, coffee & snacks

🐶 Dog‑friendly office (20% distracting, but 100% cute: see here)
