Midwife Community Engagement and Equity – Bevan Community Benefit Society

Key Responsibilities
  • Community Engagement & Equity: Collaborate with VCSE organisations, maternity services, and community stakeholders to address disparities in maternal health for minoritised women and birthing people. Engage with local communities to understand and address barriers to accessing maternity services. Promote continuity of carer and build trusting relationships with underserved families. Act as a role model for inclusive, respectful, and equitable care, advocating for diverse voices in maternity care.
  • Staff Safeguarding and Complex Cases: Support staff with safeguarding and complex cases, ensuring timely escalation and culturally sensitive responses.
  • Parent Education Leadership: Lead and deliver a full parent education programme customised to meet the needs of the population. Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the parent education programme. Act as a visible point of contact for parents‑to‑be and staff regarding parent education.
  • Deliver Excellence in Care: Deliver excellence in care by utilising resources effectively to ensure high standards of education and support. Provide information and learning materials, including via social media and external‑facing Trust webpages. Support women and birthing people to develop personalised birth plans. Provide learning opportunities for student midwives and allied health professionals.
  • Inclusive Education Delivery: Facilitate culturally appropriate antenatal and postnatal education sessions in community settings. Deliver planned antenatal sessions at Maternity Circles across Bradford, ensuring accessibility and relevance. Strengthen referral pathways between midwifery services, Family Hubs, and specialist services. Co‑design and deliver inclusive maternity care and outreach initiatives with community leaders.
  • Support Implementation of the Maternity Circles Model: Support implementation of the Maternity Circles model to improve holistic care.
  • Quality Improvement & Advocacy: Continuously monitor service provision through patient feedback and audits. Respond appropriately to feedback, recognising implications for service improvement. Provide informal learning and awareness‑raising around cultural competence and inclusive practice.
  • Maintain Clear Boundaries: Maintain clear boundaries around clinical responsibilities, ensuring safe and accountable practice.
  • Communication & Working Relationships: Communicate effectively with women, families, and professionals, including in community languages where possible. Build strong partnerships with community leaders, VCSE organisations, and healthcare providers. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and interagency collaboration.
  • Provide Culturally Sensitive Information: Provide culturally sensitive information to empower informed decision‑making.
  • Special Working Conditions: Work across hospital, community, and home settings, including evenings and weekends as required. Travel to community venues and participate in outreach activities. Engage with diverse communities and adapt care to meet cultural and linguistic needs.
