Job description

Creative Assembly is looking for an Engine Programmer (up to Senior) to join our team to work on our new project, a sequel to Alien: Isolation.
This role will be based at our studio in Horsham, UK and can be offered as hybrid/in-studio. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process.
This is an excellent opportunity for a talented programmer to join the team behind Alien: Isolation, Halo Wars 2 and the Total War franchise, to create thrilling game experiences in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5).
We’re building an agile team focused on continuous improvement and the ideal candidate will have a passion for learning, innovation and developing simple, powerful solutions to complicated problems. The successful candidate will be able to make substantial contributions to the development of key graphical and engine systems to support the project requirements, working closely with the rest of the Engine team.

Key Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Work in close collaboration with the Engine, Tools, Gameplay and Technical Art teams to design, develop and maintain Engine systems to support the project
  • Own and maintain platform-specific Engine code
  • Support content creators across disciplines with technical input and advice
  • Keep up to date on state-of-the-art software development methods, practices, and technologies
  • Participate in technology-related discussions across the project
  • Highlight opportunities for improvement to the Engine Technical Director and other project leaders, acting on them where appropriate
Knowledge, Skill and Experience (Essential)
  • Professional C++ programming experience
  • Experience of using Unreal Engine
  • Experience of working with 3D APIs
  • Knowledge of strategies for developing performance-sensitive code
  • Knowledge of theory and practical application of 3D maths in games
  • Knowledge and experience of console development and APIs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills enabling effective collaboration across the project
  • Passion for games and solving technical problems
  • The desire to learn and to grow professionally
  • Experience of using Unreal Engine 5
  • Experience of developing shader code
  • Familiarity with the latest generation of consoles
  • Experience of using performance analysis tools to guide code optimisation
