Job description

Join Awanui Labs Hawkes Bay as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technician in Haematology, performing routine testing with a supportive team in a sunny location.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Perform routine haematology testing and blood film morphology.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results in line with quality standards.
  • Participate in internal and external quality control programmes.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and report any issues to ensure optimal performance.
  • Follow established laboratory processes and quality systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Keep up to date with developments in haematology and maintain professional standards.
  • Perform Biochemistry and Specimen Reception duties as needed.
  • Work within a small, friendly team with civilised shift patterns including weekday hours, evening shifts, and Saturday overtime; no Sundays or on-call.
About You

  • Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and an Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Ability to work rostered shifts, including weekends.
  • Routine haematology and blood film morphology experience; Biochemistry experience desirable.
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality results.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex laboratory data and report findings confidently.
  • Skilled in workflow prioritisation and working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance systems and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide technical and scientific advice.
  • Methodical work approach adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
  • Committed to health and safety compliance and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
