Job description
Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Medical Assistant to support the Bedford, TX location. Hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday. The role will assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment, promoting efficient patient flow and supporting exam and treatment rooms.

Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
  • Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtain all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Process prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Inform physician of patient reschedules and no‑shows.
  • Perform other administrative duties, such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception, as requested by supervisor or physician.
Qualifications
  • High‑school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 0‑3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant (entry level).
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Current CPR certification required.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, standing and walking for extensive periods, and occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. Requires normal vision and hearing.
