Job Summary

At Clayfields House, we believe every young person deserves the chance to discover their potential and build a brighter future. As a Mechanics Instructor, you’ll do more than teach- you’ll inspire confidence and help young people develop practical skills that open doors to new opportunities.

We are looking for a Mechanics Instructor to join our Education Department in our Vocational Centre. In this role you’ll deliver engaging mechanics lessons that spark curiosity and build confidence. You’ll create a learning space where young people feel respected, valued, and motivated to succeed. This isn’t just about teaching mechanics, it’s about helping young people believe in themselves and their future.

We are a secure children’s home run by Nottinghamshire County Council, caring for up to 20 young people aged 10-18 from across England and Wales. These young people come to us due to youth justice issues or welfare concerns, often having faced difficult care histories and traumatic experiences. We provide full time secure care, education, risk reduction programmes and physical and mental health services on site.

You will be part of a committed and skilled multi‑disciplinary team and will benefit from our comprehensive staff induction and career development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging and effective Motor Mechanics lessons to young people.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages participation and growth.
  • Develop tailored lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the educational experience.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of the Vocational Centre.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  • Experience of teaching Motor Mechanics.
  • Experience in teaching or instructing young people.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage lesson planning and student assessments.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and respond to the needs of students.
Soft Skills
  • Demonstrate resilience and a positive attitude in challenging situations.
  • Show empathy and understanding towards young people with complex backgrounds.
