Job description
Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated maintenance craftsperson (Electrical) to join a team of engineering craftspersons responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical plant and equipment at buildings managed by CHoICE Facilities Services. The post holder may be required to take on the role of Competent Person (CP) as defined within Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00 for multiple engineer services to support statutory, mandatory and best practice commitments to existing partners.

The role requires flexibility and broad knowledge of electrical systems to ensure maintenance, repair and installation activities are completed efficiently while delivering high standards of service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to operate and maintain a large-scale electrical system including: Low Voltage (LV) distribution boards, LV switchboards, LV small power distribution, general and emergency lighting, theatre operating lights, nurse call systems, CCTV, swipe access systems and uninterruptable power supplies. The post holder will participate in the current on-call rota and undertake overtime when required, with appropriate payments made.

Job Responsibilities
  • Undertake maintenance and installation work across the range of engineering services managed/maintained by CFS, including surveys, inspections, fault finding, servicing and rectification of faults.
  • Provide technical advice, guidance and, where appropriate, supervision to other CFS staff, contractors and Trust colleagues.
  • Participate in the current CFS shift pattern/system and on-call rota; undertake overtime when the service demands require it.

Qualifications
  • Essential: BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering or equivalent; completion of a formally recognised and accredited apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Desirable: Experience in NHS hospital environments; experience operating Building Management Systems (BMS).
Physical Skills
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Trust sites; perform moderate physical activities for long periods and occasional heavy lifting as required; capable of regular moving and handling activities; high level of manual dexterity for fine tool manipulation.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Essential: Detailed knowledge of current UK Electrical Wiring Regulations (18th Edition); ability to use initiative in problem solving; adaptability to changing demands and emergency situations; ability to prioritise own workload and that of others to meet patient care and SLA targets; strong communication with Estates colleagues, Trust staff and external contacts; competence with computer systems (e.g., BMS, fire alarm systems, labour management, asbestos register).
  • Desirable: Knowledge of HTMs; knowledge of planned preventative maintenance and building management systems (BMS).
